Archive Detail

The principal archive of the NCC is lodged with the Modern Records Office at Warwick University. The NCC at its base in Llandrindod Wells has a smaller archive collection, which can be inspected by appointment. The main sections are as follows:
Catalogues: A collection of bicycle catalogues, listing makers and prices. Dunlop: A large and comprehensive collection of approximately 3,000 papers listing the work of J.B. Dunlop and the reinvention of the pneumatic tyre, together with those relating to the formation of the Dunlop Company. Sturmey Archer: The collection has in the order of 300 Sturmey Archer hubs obtained from the company's design department, together with a large quantity of patent drawings. These (patent drawings) are available for inspection at Nottingham. Stanley Shows: Our listings of the Stanley shows covers the period from 1874-1896, with information on exhibitors, trade stands and layouts. New inventions for these years are also included. Dursley Pedersons: Our archive contains the Dursley Pedersons study book which together with other reference material complements the collections fine display of their frames. Belle Vue Cycling Club: archive with club information from 1900 onwards. Early Lighting: Almost 800 papers are available on lamp manufacturers and their location. Information covers: candle, oil, carbon, battery and dynamo to name but a few. Racing programme's: A large collection of programme's listing events from the whole of the UK .
The collection is always pleased to receive donations of material into it's archive at Llandrindod Wells. This will enable us to offer a better source of information to all our bicycle friends and students.
